The map, a representation of which is shown above, details around 1,500 companies, including event services that have taken a share of the billions of pounds earmarked for the 2012 event.

"Thousands of companies across the UK are winning contracts and helping to build the venues and infrastructure needed for the London 2012 Games," said Olympic Delivery Authority chairman John Armitt.

"This map is a snapshot of how businesses are benefiting from the investment in the Games project. It shows that around 1,500 UK companies from Inverness to Taunton have already won contracts, a mere fraction of what will be the total number."

LOCOG, the London Games organiser, is beginning its Games-time procurement process this year, including the construction of temporary venues and buying more than 900,000 pieces of sporting equipment. .
