A report in Friday's Evening Standard (8 January) suggested tougher anti-terrorist measures to protect the 2012 Games are expected to send the security bill soaring above its current £600m budget.
If true, it would give hundreds of security firms across Britain the chance to get involved in the Games.
Yet a Home Office spokesperson told Event: "We are confident that the Olympic Safety and Security programme will be delivered within the £600m envelope, which has been set aside for the additional costs of ensuring the safety and security of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games."
