This appointment completes Loaded's senior editorial management team, which now consists of editor Scott Manson, deputy editor Martin Daubney, managing editor Duncan Baizley and Burke as associate editor.
Manson, a former editor of Ministry magazine, took over as editor last year from Keith Kendrick.
Burke joined the NME as a freelance sub-editor in 1996, before signing up as Loaded's chief sub in 1997. He was promoted to production editor in 1999. Prior to this, he worked for Birmingham listings title City X, which he joined from university in 1993.
Loaded publisher Andrew Sumner said: "Chris is one of the most dedicated members of the Loaded team and the man responsible for much of Loaded's unique, award-winning tone. I know I'm speaking for everyone on the magazine when I say congratulations -- his promotion is richly deserved."
The appointment follows the launch of Loaded's biggest promotion to date last month, which included advertising and digital marketing activity.
Loaded is second in the men's magazine market behind arch-rival FHM. In the last set of ABCs, Loaded had a circulation of 290,214, a fall of 6% year on year. Rival FHM has an ABC circulation of 620,226.
