Lloyds TSB considers ad campaign future after Cold Feet star's drink driving charge

Thomson was yesterday banned from driving for three years. He was stopped by police while two-and-a-half times over the drink drive limit.

'Cold Feet' star Thomson has been appearing in a Nescafe Gold Blend-style will-they-or-won't-they campaign with actress Joely Richardson.

The latest execution has the two exchanging phone numbers after Thomson's character Danny drives into the back of Richardson's car.

The bank has not, as yet, made a decision whether to pull the campaign, but a spokesman said the issue was under consideration.

"The campaign is under review. The next ad in the series will be broadcast as planned and will go out tonight. The brand team is currently considering what to do," a spokesman for Lloyds TSB said.

The strategy behind the campaign has been to create characters who can become associated with the Lloyds TSB brand as the storyline develops.

The first ad was set in Danny's flower shop and featured him telling Alex, played by Richardson, that he is in business thanks to Lloyds TSB's business banking offer.

The second ad continues with Alex returning to the shop to buy flowers with her Lloyds TSB credit card. Both ads feature the strapline, 'Banking worth talking about'.
