Nigel Nathan, speaking at Essa’s G50+ Conference at the BDC today (12 July) said that he was pursuing the issue on a political level, although he described on-going negotiations with Transport for London (TfL), the Mayor’s office and local MPs as a "lonely" business.
According to Nathan, relevant parties were listening to suggestions that the tube capacity should be increased when Olympia has shows on, so that customers can take what for many is the current most popular route to the west London venue.
Nathan did suggest EC&O was already working on a fallback position, and that involved the increasing of bus services, should the planned closure go ahead.
Association of Exhibition organisers CEO Austin Hawkins, whose body is supporting action against the planned tube changes, said that TfL staff had indicted to him that the organisation was beginning to "wobble" with regards to its stance on the future of Olympia tube services.
"The weight of objections has surprised them," said Hawkins. "All of us should write to TfL and make our presence felt."
