
Punter will head up LinkedIn's marketing solutions division, which connects brands, products and service to the network of professionals.
He will be responsible for driving LinkedIn’s product offering and deliver value for marketers, in partnership with media agency networks, expanding LinkedIn’s international client partnerships.
LinkedIn is aiming to bolster its marketing solutions business, with a focus on business-to-business and premium-brand marketers in Europe, to target its professional and affluent community. Clients currently include Philips and Cisco.
Punter will report to Kevin Eyres, managing director at LinkedIn Europe, who said the network had "ambitious plans" for the next few years.
He said: "Online professional networking is evolving to become the fundamental mainstream platform for networkers, recruiters and marketers to engage the world’s professionals."
The LinkedIn website launched in 2003 and has more than 80 million members worldwide. According to ComScore, LinkedIn.com received more than 14.5 million monthly unique users in Europe in July.
Punter spent 15 years at CBS Outdoor, holding the position of CBS International chief executive for two years, until leaving the company in August last year.
