Ling to leave Facebook

LONDON - Ben Ling, one of Facebook's top executives who helped build the social network's application platform, is leaving the company .

According to reports in the US, Ling, who also previously worked at Google, is leaving to pursue "other interests".

Ling, who holds the official title of director of platform product marketing, is the fourth key executive to leave Facebook since February, following the departure of chief revenue officer Owen Van Natta, vice-president of product management Matt Cohler and chief technology officer Adam D'Angelo.

Facebook's platform product marketing team is reportedly being reviewed by Elliot Schrage, recruited from Google's public policy unit, to lead Facebook's communications and public policy.

Meanwhile, the company is still searching for a new vice-president of engineering and a vice-president of product.

Last month, Facebook underwent a redesign to offer new features, as it looks to stand out in the competitive social media space.

The revamp features a simpler design, along with the opportunity for users to preview and test new site features.
