Lineker fails to score with <BR>Helena Christensen

LONDON - Supermodel Helena Christensen will go up against footballer Gary Lineker in the latest Walkers Crisps advertisement as part of an £2.5m campaign to attract housewives to the brand.

The ad for Walkers Lite low-fat crisps will be aired on TV from January 17 to February 13 in a one-off campaign. In a break from the usual Walkers' script, Christensen will get the better of Walkers frontman Lineker, who has taken on many celebrities over the years and come out on top.

Created by Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, the agency will also launch a simultaneous press campaign, targeting women in the 25-44 age group as well as the over-55s. The ads will appear in monthly magazines including Top Sante, Red, Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan, as well as weeklies Hello! and Now.

The former England striker is said to have enjoyed acting alongside one of the world's most beautiful women, making a change from his earlier co-stars Vinnie Jones, Paul Gascoigne, Des Lynam and Michael Owen.

The ads were filmed in South Africa in a field of sunflowers where Lineker fails to steal Christensen's packet of crisps. "It's hard work," Lineker said, "but someone had to do it."

The Walkers Lite crisps, with 33% less fat than usual crisps, will be available in ready salted, cheese and onion, and salt and vinegar flavours.

The commercial was directed by Paul Weiland, with Peter Souter as creative director. The copywriter on the ad was Mike Durban, with art direction by Tony Strong.
