Five-time Olympic gold medal winner Sir Steve Redgrave is rowing to
catch Gary Lineker in the latest ad in the long-running Walkers crisps
campaign.
Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO has created a spoof chase commercial for the
launch of Walkers' first co-branded crisps - Heinz tomato ketchup
flavour.
Peter Knowland, the board account director at AMV, said: "The challenge
for us was to develop a commercial that did justice to the two brands
and the appeal of the product."
In "rowing machine", Lineker appears in a gym where he spots Redgrave on
the rowing machine with a packet of ketchup-flavoured crisps beside him.
Lineker pinches the crisps and strolls away from the gym smirking but
his peaceful nibbling is shattered as Redgrave comes crashing through
the window - still on his rowing machine - to rescue his snack.
The chase continues down an alley, up some stairs and along the bank of
the Thames, where Redgrave powers past his Olympic team-mates Matthew
Pinsent, James Cracknell and Tim Foster rowing a boat on the river.
In the final shot, Lineker has been caught and is dragged off behind the
machine with feet and hands bound as the voiceover warns: "New Heinz
tomato ketchup flavour - buy your own."
The 40-second ad will run from 16 July. It was written by Peter Souter,
art directed by Mike Durban and the TV director was Paul Weiland through
The Paul Weiland Film Company. MediaVest is handling media buying.
