LG Mobile head of marketing steps down

LG Mobile is seeking a new head of marketing for UK and Ireland after the departure of Alex Windle, after just one year in the job.

LG Mobile head of marketing steps down

The news comes after Jim Michel left the role of UK general manager last month, shortly after the launch of the company's Optimus 3D, which LG Mobile marketed as the first glasses-free 3D smartphone on the market.

LG has confirmed Windle has left the company and has appointed Warren Lewis as UK head of mobile.

Lewis has four years experience at LG Electronics, previously heading up the company's IT solutions business. The company said the business grew by 38% during Lewis' time leading LG's IT solution.

The outgoing Windle joined LG Mobile from Vodafone in September 2010, where he held the role of head of partner marketing for a year. He worked his way up at Vodafone after first joining the telecoms giant as a CRM campaigns manager in August 2002.

In May this year the firm launched advertising that focused on a brand message rather than the products themselves.

The outdoor, print and online campaign, created by Publicis Modem, for its Optiums Black and Optimus 2X smartphones ran taglines including "Lighten up, life's good".

However, Windle announced in July that the company would shift its marketing strategy to go back-to-basics by focusing on the product rather than a brand message.

LG Mobile's marketing currently targets early technology adopters and the UK's 1.5 million "pub geeks", according to Windle, who are predominantly male and aged between 24 and 40.
