Landor Associates appoints new London managing director

LONDON - Global branding and design agency Landor Associates has appointed Cheryl Giovannoni from WPP Group brand design agency Coley Porter Bell as its new London managing director.

Giovannoni will be taking over from Charlie Wrench, who has concurrently held positions as managing director of Landor London, president of Landor's Europe and Middle East region, and chief strategy officer worldwide.

Wrench has now been named as president of Landor Associates, responsible for managing all 23 Landor offices worldwide, reporting to Landor chairman and CEO Craig Branigan.

Giovannoni has served as Coley Porter Bell's chief executive officer since 2001, previously working for Ogilvy & Mather and working for clients such as Unilever, SmithKline Beecham, Bupa and Associated British Foods.

At the same time, Mark Kennedy, currently executive director of brand strategy based in Hong Kong, has been promoted to chief strategy officer.

Kennedy started with Landor's Hong Kong offices in September 2002 as head of marketing and was promoted to director of marketing and brand strategy the following year. He was promoted again last year to executive director of brand strategy.

Peter Knapp, executive director for Landor London, has been promoted to the new role of executive creative director for Europe & the Middle East.

Knapp has worked at Landor for nearly 12 years, moving to the Hong Kong office as its creative director in 1995 and returning to London in 1998 as executive creative director.

Wrench, who is currently based in London, will relocate to Landor's worldwide headquarters in San Francisco next year.

"As branding plays an increasingly critical role in business development across industries and borders, Landor's global leadership team is better positioned than ever to provide its clients with consistently strong creative and strategic brand direction worldwide," Wrench said.

All of the appointments will be effective from August 1 2005.
