Kerrang! Radio ads emphasise mainstream rock playlist

LONDON - Emap's new ad campaign for its West Midlands radio station Kerrang! 105.2 is trying to lure listeners put off by its 'thrash metal' image by telling them its playlist is full of Oasis and Coldplay.

The campaign targets the stations' West Midlands FM listeners with 48- and 96-sheet posters, and national digital listeners with ads in Kerrang!, Q and Motor Cycle News magazines and on FHM and Zoo's websites.

The ads, by ODD Creative, mix up the names of two bands to show the breadth of the playlist -- so, Stereophonics and Oasis become "Stereoasis".

Adrian Serle, managing director of Kerrang! Radio, said: "This campaign helps dispel the myth that we just play thrash metal. We don't, and that's why we're the fastest-growing radio station in the West Midlands."

The station began broadcasting in June 2004.
