The advertising campaign through McCann Erickson shows fiesty girls who go to extreme lengths to get hold of a Cornetto Love Potion. It is a modern take on the traditional romantic ad where a gondolier serenades his passenger with 'Just one Cornetto' sung to the tune of Italian love song 'O Sole Mio' made famous by Enrico Caruso.
In the new ad a woman sings "New Wall's Cornetto, give it to me", which is followed by a man singing "But it's hazelnut chocolate... no chance honey".
The woman responds: "I've got something, for you to see... Give me Cornetto, and you'll get me."
The new Love Potion variants are: tiramisu with a spicy bite; choc chip flirt with hazelnut; chocolate with a rum-flavoured twist; choc nut with a pistachio kiss; cappuccino with an Irish cream flavour lick; and forest fruits nibbling vanilla flavour. They will be sold for 99p each at convenience retail outlets.
Robert Campbell, creative director at McCanns, said: "We've taken a national treasure and made it totally contemporary."
The first execution of the ad, "raincoat", breaks on April 5 followed by two more executions, "office" and "beachgirl", breaking in May and July.
The "gondolier" ad came in at number 23 in Channel 4's top 100 ads of all time poll.
