The budget supermarket chain’s "Christmas friend" ad, created by McCann Manchester, features its own lonely old man living on the moon, who compares the price of a telescope sold by John Lewis with a cheaper one sold by Aldi.
However, Marketing's Shona Ghosh writes that the ad does not compare the exact telescope. A spokeswoman told Marketing:
In order to make this a comparable advert we were required to select a John Lewis telescope that had a comparable spec to the Aldi Premium Telescope.
The telescope that featured in John Lewis’ Christmas advert was not comparable to ours, therefore we selected one from John Lewis that was, the Celestron AstroMaster LT76AZ Reflector Telescope £109.95.
And if you're wondering how Aldi could get away with such a blatant rip off, that's because it's not a rip off, but a parody.

Pitches: GSK launches review of ad agency roster

A source close to GSK said the company is looking to consolidate agencies within its various product categories. Roster and non-roster agencies are involved in the review.
Sensodyne toothpaste, Piriton allergy treatment, and Panadol pain-relief medication, are among the brands under review. The Grey network creates advertising for Sensodyne, Piriton and Panadol.
CHI & Partners picked up the global advertising account for the Maxinutrition sports-nutrition range in 2013. TBWA handles the creative account for Aquafresh, another GSK toothpaste brand.

People news: Twitter names Dara Nasr UK managing director
, replacing Bruce Daisley, 北京赛车pk10's Maisie McCabe writes.
Nasr will take on responsibility for the entire UK business, which includes engineering, media partnerships, research, marketing and communications, as well as Twitter’s sales team.
After joining Twitter from Google as the head of sales in November 2012, Nasr was promoted to sales director in February last year.
