
McGrath will lead management of the Johnston Press’ portfolio of regional press brands, which include The Scotsman, the Yorkshire Post and the Falkirk Herald. She will report to chief marketing officer, Lucy Sinclair.
McGrath was the head of marketing for BBC Online and interim director of North Brands for BBC North, holding the latter role since January 2011. Between 2009 and 2010, she was the head of marketing for BBC iPlayer.
Before joining the BBC, McGrath held a number of roles at McCann Worldgroup, where she worked for more than ten years. She spent more than three years as managing partner leading the management of Microsoft’s global brand portfolio.
Johnston Press appointed John Bills as interim group managing director in June this year. In July, Neil Jones, the chief commercial officer, left the business. Bills got the permanent managing director role in August.
Sinclair said: "Terry has an impeccable track record of impressive and pioneering digital initiatives, and a notable ability to lead. I know she will be an excellent asset to our team and am excited to see how our extensive portfolio of brands develops in her highly capable hands."
Prior to taking on the role of chief marketing officer in January, Sinclair was the group audience development and marketing director from 2012. She also previously worked at the BBC in roles including director of marketing and audience for BBC Future Media.
