John Lewis in customer magazine overhaul

LONDON - John Lewis is to overhaul its customer magazine activity and launch a branded magazine to take on rival retailers including Marks & Spencer.

Insiders say the move is part of a 'rationalisation' process at the retailer, and will spell the end of its Source magazine brand. John Brown currently publishes the title for John Lewis' direct-selling business, Greenbee, which sells home, insurance and travel products.

Source, which is expected to be replaced by a John Lewis-branded title, has a circulation of 500,000 and is published bimonthly. John Brown has created catalogues and other direct marketing activity for the retailer, including seasonal furniture directories and home and technology catalogues.

Publicis Blueprint, John Brown and Haymarket Network are all believed to be taking part in the pitch, which is being handled by the APA.
