John Lewis ad spoofed by The Poke as 'vermin' spoil Christmas

Satirical humour website The Poke has created a spoof of this year's John Lewis ad within four hours of the original being released.

The original, created by Adam & Eve/DDB, features computer-generated foxes, a badger and a squirrel that enjoy jumping on a trampoline bought for a young girl for Christmas.

When the girl rushes outside to see her new gift, she sees the family dog, Buster, enjoying the trampoline after he spied on the wildlife having fun with it overnight.

However, the Poke’s version has an  unhappier ending. The girl runs outside to watch the trampoline destroyed. It ends with the copy, "Don’t let vermin ruin Christmas. For all your festive pest control needs."

The parody ad was conceived by James Herring and Jasper Gibson along with Dave Packer. Herring said: "In our version we have aimed to raise awareness of the mild annoyance of urban wildlife experienced by middle class city dwellers. For many it’s a problem."

John Lewis' 2016 Christmas ad launched online at 8am today and within the first hour was shared more than any of its predecessors had been within the first 24 hours of launch.
