John Hartley takes membership director's role at CIM

LONDON - The world's largest professional marketing body, the Chartered Institute of Marketing, has named John Hartley its director of membership.

Hartley's role will be to focus on the recruitment and retention of CIM's professional and studying members worldwide.

The body is looking to strengthen its membership at all levels of seniority and raise awareness of the need for clear professional marketing standards and a code of ethics.

Hartley was previously the organisation's international marketing director, with specific responsibility for developing the business. He also has experience in working with UK members as the director of regions.

In 2003, he took up responsibility for the international community of 11,000 students and 4,000 members.

Hartley said: "I plan to build upon CIM's status as the world's largest professional marketing organisation by promoting the benefits of employing CIM qualified marketers to businesses, large and small, and to influence enterprise and government bodies."

Hartley also emphasised that his focus would be to continue to improve membership benefits by building on last year's relaunch.

CIM was formed in 1911 and is the only marketing body to hold a royal charter, which enables it to confer Chartered Marketer status.
