Hardie takes up the role immediately and succeeds Taylor, who has announced his resignation from Jetix Europe following Disney's announcement on 8 December of its intention to acquire 100% of the shares in Jetix Europe.

Hardie will also continue in his current role as executive vice-president at Disney Channels EMEA.

Andy Bird, chairman of the supervisory board of Jetix Europe, said: "Paul has done an exemplary job in his four years as chief executive and we wish him the very best in future endeavours."

In December, Disney struck a deal to move to full ownership Jetix Europe. Previously, Disney owned 74% of Jetix Europe. Following the December deal, for an undisclosed sum, it will own 100% of the company.

The deal significantly expanded Disney's presence in children's TV. It currently owns Disney Channel and Playhouse Disney.
