CN Group, owner of the Carlisle-based News & Star, has entered into a three-week consultation period with staff to determine how costs can be reduced.
Employees across the three divisions - publishing, print and radio - will be consulted about plans that will include voluntary redundancy. It is not clear which divisions the job losses will come form.
Two of the CN Group’s nine radio stations, those in Banbury and Coventry, will be closed down.
Robin Burgess, chief executive of CN Group, said ensuring its business remains at the centre of the communities it serves would be foremost in the group’s thinking.
CN Group titles include The Cumberland News, the North West Mail in Barrow, the Whitehaven News, the Workington Times and Star and the Hexham Courant. Its current nine radio stations include The Bay and Lakeland in the North West.
