Jamie Oliver brand expands with US cookware launch

NEW YORK - Jamie Oliver has taken another step in his transformation from chef to brand with the launch of a range of cookware in the US, available to pre-order exclusively through Amazon.com.

Jamie Oliver's Professional cookware series from T-Fal includes saucepans, a saute pan, tongs and a Dutch oven. He has already put his name to a range of kitchen utensils in the UK, sold through Boots the Chemist.

Amazon.com is offering an exclusive period where customers can pre-order the products at Oliver's own until September 15. The US retailer promises to donate 15% of sales to Oliver's Fifteen restaurant in London, which provides jobs for underprivileged youth.

Oliver said: "From the heavy-bottomed pans to the large white platters and easy-to-follow recipes in my books, it all makes it easy for you to get stuck in."

The "Naked Chef" is known in the UK for his cheeky, chirpy television shows as well as his appearances in a long-running series of ads for the supermarket chain Sainsbury's.

However, he began to turn his image around with his most recent television series 'Jamie's Kitchen', which showed a more warts-and-all picture of Oliver struggling against the odds to get Fifteen up and running. In the US, he has two television series running -- 'Jamie's Kitchen', which makes its US debut on October 13, and 'Oliver's Twist' on Food Network.

Amazon.com is offering customers who buy items from the range access to a personal video message from Oliver, thanking them and offering insight into his cookware and philosophy.

"We are thrilled to be the first and premier destination for customers who want to discover and buy Jamie Oliver's Professional cookware series from T-Fal," Glen Cunningham, Amazon.com director of home and garden, said. "Amazon.com is proud to team with Jamie Oliver in support of aspiring chefs everywhere."
