Film makers EON Productions, web consultants 360 and web design
company Digit have produced an alternative web site for the new James Bond
film, The World Is Not Enough, in response to a long-running argument with
MGM.
With ownership of 50 per cent of the rights to the spy films, EON’s
decision to produce the 007.com site (www.007.com) came as it felt that
its brand was under-represented on the MGM-produced site
(www.jamesbond.com).
Designed to reflect EON’s history and provide the first dedicated
information resource for the James Bond films, the site uses a more
interactive approach than the US-based site, which centres around a
downloadable trailer.
”MGM as a studio will only put up a site around the run-up to the release
of the film - and it is especially geared towards that film,” said John
Parkinson, vice president of marketing at EON.
Featuring film clips, a cast chat room and an e-commerce element which
offers official merchandise for the new film, the site has been tested by
around 1,000 people and has taken six months to construct.
