The Caribbean is set to come to Finsbury Park during the Olympic Games as Event has learned it is in the final stages of talks to become the site for 'Jamaica Village 2012'.

Haringey Council has denied the rumours, but local residents groups became informed of the plans as early as February and sources close to the project confirmed to Event that barring a couple of small obstacles, the deal was almost done.

The North London park will be at least "a week-long celebration of Jamaican culture that showcases the best of the countries sports, music, arts and craft, fashion, tourism, food, and drinks", according to an official report by the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica which has liaised with the Jamaica Village organisers.

The Village follows a raft of NOCs (National Olympic Committees) that are hosting Olympic Houses and staging events during the Games.

With Jamaica likely to pick up a number of athletics medals, including at least one for sprinting sensation Usain Bolt, Finsbury Park could become the place to be next year.

Finsbury Park is the latest in a number of London venues which have been chosen as Olympic fan houses, including , , , , , and .
