The Genes Reunited site has launched a new maps feature which enables people to see where their ancestors lived up to 168 years ago.
When members search census data, not only can they view their results as they appear in the original records, but their findings are shown on a detailed map.
The new feature has been developed using Microsoft's Virtual Earth platform and has increased page views in the historical records section by 50%.
This new map feature follows the redesign of the site last month. It has 9 million registered members.
