ITV1's Honest loses viewers amid tough competition

LONDON - The second episode of ITV1's new comedy drama 'Honest' shed 1.7m viewers last night after debuting with 6m last week, although it faced tough competition from FA Cup football on BBC One and 'Grand Designs' on Channel 4, according to unofficial overnight figures.

'Honest' drew 4.3m viewers and a 17.3% share of the audience at 9pm-10pm. The series stars Amanda Redman and Sean Pertwee in a story about a suburban criminal family trying to go straight.

BBC One did better with live coverage of of the FA Cup replay between Manchester City and West Ham in a two-hour slot from 8pm. A total of 5.3m viewers, equal to 21.6% of the audience, watched City win 1-0.

Channel 4 attracted 4.5m viewers to the first in a new series of 'Grand Designs', although this figure includes viewers who watched the programme on the time-shifted Channel 4 + 1 channel. The instalment, in which presenter Kevin McCloud visited a Regency townhouse in Cheltenham, attracted an 18.2% share of the audience.

It was a strong evening for Channel 4, with 'Relocation, Relocation' and a Jamie Oliver series also performing well.

Long-running property series 'Relocation, Relocation' pulled in 4.2m viewers and a 17.3% share of the audience in the 8pm-9pm slot, while 'Jamie Oliver: Eat to Save Your Life' drew a respectable 2.6m viewers and a 17.2% share between 10pm-11pm.

It is early days in the battle for viewers in the 10pm news slot, but BBC One last night extended its lead over ITV1.

'BBC News' brought in 4.8m viewers and a 22.9% share in the 30-minute slot, while ITV1's relaunched 'News at Ten' trailed behind with 2.6m viewers and a 12.4% share in only its third outing.
