The licensing agreement gives ITV1 terrestrial television rights to Universal's 2001-2003 theatrical titles, including films from the UK’s Working Title Films, as well as titles from Universal's feature film library.
ITV has recently scored well showing primetime movies beginning in the early evening. Its current season of Bond movies on Wednesday at 8pm has proved a ratings winner.
As well as hits like 'About a Boy', the deal includes upcoming cinema releases such as 'The Hulk' and 'Red Dragon'. The library titles range from 'Terminator 2' to 'Murder on the Orient Express'. Also included in the agreement is a selection of titles from Universal's library of more than 34,000 hours of television programming.
Jeremy Boulton, ITV controller of acquisitions, said, "Universal has been experiencing tremendous success and this agreement secures the studio's incredible slate of films for ITV1 in the UK. We look forward with relish to screening these great movies for our viewers."
