World Cup boosts ITV ad revenues

LONDON - Despite being beaten in the ratings by BBC One, the World Cup has proven to be an advertising bonanza for ITV.

According to weekend reports, ITV's owners, Carlton Communications and Granada, are expecting advertising revenues to rise by 10% this month, compared with previous estimates of a 6% increase.

Furthermore, sources in the company are reported to have said that bookings for July will also be up on last year by around 6%.

The news is a rare bright spot for Carlton and Granada, which are also reported to be facing the prospect of a second lawsuit relating to the collapse of ITV Digital.

The Sunday Times says that creditors of ITV Digital want to sue its directors over their failure to share information that could have warned that the company was in trouble. The company's creditors include the Football League and BSkyB.

Carlton and Granada are already facing a £500m lawsuit from the Football League over lost revenues. Both companies are fighting the suit, and have said that they are not making allowances in their future earnings expectations for any payout.
