ITV could sell Carlton Screen Advertising to Thomson

LONDON - French company Thomson could be set to make a bid for ITV's cinema ad sales business Carlton Screen Advertising, valued at £120m.

ITV could sell Carlton Screen Advertising to Thomson

According to reports in weekend newspapers, ITV chief executive Charles Allen is reviewing the future of Carlton Screen Advertising within ITV and has welcomed the move.

Last month, ITV sold its stake in Thomson for £162m, part of moves to get rid of non-core assets at the broadcaster.

Carlton Screen Advertising is headed by chief executive Debbie Chalet and counts Odeon, UCI and Cineworld among its customers, and represents a total of 2,500 screens in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

It has a joint venture with Thomson, giving the companies 50% ownership of Screenvision US and Screenvision Europe, the largest cinema advertising network in the US and Europe, which are part of the sale.

Carlton has already stated that it aims to offer its clients pan-European and global cinema packages in the future.

Reports say that Chalet, along with finance director Trevor Davis, are looking at doing a management buyout of Carlton Cinema Advertising, but that no offer had been made at present.

ITV has also sold post-production firm The Moving Picture Company and Carlton Books in recent deals.
