The initial phase of the launch, taking place over the next few weeks, will offer viewers the chance to interact with some of ITV's ratings-winning coverage and access additional content.
Football fans will be able to participate in 'The Premiership' by asking questions of presenters and pundits, as well as accessing information on players, teams and statistics and league tables.
The service will also be available during broadcasts of 'On The Ball' and 'The Goal Rush' and the channel's Champions League coverage, which last year gave the channel some of its highest audiences.
'Pop Idol' fans will be able to vote for their favourite contender for the coveted prize using ITVi, once the audition phase of the show is over and judges Simon Cowell, Pete Waterman, Neil Fox and Nikki Chapman have chosen which contestants go through.
Last year's final drew 13m viewers and 8.7m votes, and ITV hopes that offering voting via the remote control will encourage more people to get involved. Behind-the-scenes gossip and news will also be available on the platform.
The rollout of these programme-specific services will be followed by a 24-hour service, which will allow viewers to access the content all the time and not just during the relevant programme.
In the coming months, the platform will provide betting and gaming through ITV's partnership with Littlewoods Gaming.
Jane Marshall, controller of ITV Interactive, said: "This is a very exciting time for ITV Interactive as we start to bring more and more services to viewers and advertisers under the ITVi brand. We will be building on all these initiatives over the coming months and will have a comprehensive interactive offering up and running by the end of this autumn."
