ITV 1 ‘stabilising' despite revenue losses

LONDON - ITV today announced losses in ad revenue for its flagship channel ITV 1, which were down 9% at £595m for the first half of 2007. In a statement to the city, ITV said that its main channel was beginning to stabilise as the ratings decline showed signs of slowing.

ITV said that advertising on its digital channels and on GMTV was up 24% at £122m. The results compare to a 0.3% drop in the UK's TV advertising market overall in the first half of the year.
In other areas of its business ITV recorded mixed results. Its cinema arm, Carlton Screen Advertising, will make a loss this year, according to ITV's forecast. ITV blamed a continually poor performance by the UK cinema advertising market and CSA's "onerous contractual commitments" for the poor prospects.
ITV said the media coverage of premium rate scandals had impacted on ITV Play's first half revenue, which dropped 67% to £9m. Meanwhile Friends Reunited, ITV's social networking site, increased revenue by 25%, year-on-year.
