Irish Times expands UK reach

LONDON - The Irish Times is expanding the UK distribution of its international edition beyond London and the South of England, to new cities in England and Wales including Birmingham and Manchester.

The newspaper, which is published Monday to Saturday priced at £1, is looking to further expand its distribution across the UK, with plans to also distribute the title in Scotland.

UK distribution of the international edition, which launched in May 2005, will increase from around 4,000 copies to around 10,000 copies. It will be available in various outlets, including supermarkets and independent retailers.

Irish Times circulation sales director Fran Walsh said: "We've always been aware that there is a sizeable potential market in the Irish community and those interested in Ireland beyond the original launch area."

Irish Times is owned by an independent trust.
