Ipsos acquires two North American research companies

NEW YORK – Ipsos has bought Montreal-based Descarie & Complices, which focuses on advertising research, and New York's Shifrin Research.

Descarie & Complices was founded in 1944 and has a leading position within the Quebec research market, particularly among ad agencies. It has 25 employees working in quantitative and qualitative research and generated revenue of C$3.6m (£1.6m) last year.

Ipsos Descarie will serve clients in the Canadian market, along with Ipsos' Canadian agency, Ipsos ASI, which looks after ad resaerch, and Ipsos Reid, which manages customer loyalty, marketing and public affairs research.

Shifrin Research was founded in 1983 and specilaises in strategic consultation, market research design, implementation and control. It employs 21 full-time staff and generated revenue of $8.6m (£3.7m) in 2004.

Ipsos revealed consolidated revenues of €606m for 2004, 6.3% up on the previous years figures.

Growth slowed in Europe during the last quarter following and there was reduced marketing activity among consumer goods.

Ipsos' best regional performances came from Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. North America achieved steady growth, despite switching to online data collection systems that reduce market share.
