IPC's Brooks appointed MD of Guardian Newspapers

LONDON - Tim Brooks, managing director of IPC Ignite!, is to leave the publisher and take up the position of managing director at Guardian Newspapers Limited recently made vacant by Carolyn McCall.

McCall was promoted to chief executive of the Guardian Media Group from the position of chief executive of Guardian Newspapers in May this year, and the hunt for her successor has been ongoing since she took the position. McCall replaced Bob Phillis, who retired from the publisher.

Brooks joined IPC Media in 2000 to run the SouthBank portfolio and was appointed to his current role in November 2002. He also heads Time Inc SOPAC, Time Inc's Australian division.

Sylvia Auton, IPC Media chief executive, said: "Tim has made an exceptional contribution to IPC over the last six years. I know I speak on behalf of all his board colleagues when I say that we are going to miss him enormously and we wish him nothing but the best in his new role."

Brooks said: "IPC is not only the biggest but also the best magazine publisher in the UK, and I shall miss the people here a great deal. However, the opportunity at Guardian Newspapers is too good to refuse."

Brooks will leave IPC on September 15 to join the newspaper publisher.
