IPC plans to launch NME radio station

IPC is to make its first venture into radio programming later this year with the launch of an NME-branded digital station to compete with Emap's Kerrang! Radio.

Details of the programming are under wraps, but the publisher has confirmed that it plans to broadcast on NME.com, DAB digital radio and digital television.

The station will build on NME.com's Music Player, which offers downloads of songs before they hit the shops. The site also recently partnered with online radio network Mercora, which enables users to create virtual radio stations.

As well as Kerrang!, which reaches 1.2 million listeners a week, Emap has radio stations tied to its monthly titles, Q and Mojo.
