From 11am this morning and for the subsequent 24 hours, the 76-page magazine, which was out on Saturday (9 May), is being made available free via homepage ad links to Magazinesondemand.co.uk, the magazine download site operated by Menzies Digital, which provides services to many of the UK's largest publishers.
The digital magazine, which carries the same display and classifieds ads as the print product, can be downloaded by anyone from the UK or internationally. A spokesman for NME said the promotion was particularly targeting 15 to 24-year-olds who are not regular readers of the magazine.
A company statement said the deal with Menzies was part of an "ongoing campaign to take the unique benefits of NME magazine to an online audience".
To download a digital copy of NME from Magazinesondemand.co.uk, part of a joint venture between John Menzies and Largardère Services of France, usually costs £2.30.
NME recorded an ABC figure of 48,459 for the period June to December 2008, down 24.3% year on year, although the website NME.com reached an average of 3,501,326 unique users a month, according to the latest available ABCe figures from June 2008.
