Interpublic to announce delayed earnings tonight

NEW YORK - The Interpublic Group of Companies has rescheduled its delayed earnings announcement for the close of the US markets this afternoon, a week after it was originally due.

The delay sparked a crisis of confidence in Interpublic's stock, causing it to plummet to a 52-week low of $12.75 on August 6. However, reports suggest that the delay in announcing the earnings may have been sparked by a $50m (£33m) discrepancy in the European accounting, that required CEO John Dooner and chief financial officer Sean Orr to fly to Europe, thus causing the week's delay.

Shares in Interpublic fell by 0.84% to trade at $16.65 -- beating other US-listed media stocks, which saw bigger falls, including Omnicom Group, down by 3.63% to $55.25, and Publicis Groupe, down by 7.22% at $18.88.

Interpublic saw its shares recover some of their value last week, after the investment bank JP Morgan upgraded it from a long-term buy to a buy.
