I approached Lightblue regarding a summer internship, having heard great things through a friend who had worked in Dubai on a PlayStation 2 promotion.

I study Events Management at Plymouth University and thought this could be a great opportunity for me before undertaking my final year. I contacted , who introduced me to and Alexandra Crawley to discuss the forthcoming Aperol Spritz Social tour.

It was lovely to receive welcoming emails from the worldwide offices of Lightblue on my first day – they were sent direct to my Lightblue email account and I immediately felt a part of the team. This continued throughout my placement, with advice and friendship from Alex and my colleagues.

The were held in four cities – London, Manchester, Brighton and Bristol. Before each event was due to ‘go live’ it was my responsibility to arrange hotel bookings and transport, source local suppliers and ensure uniform, leaflets and flyers were available. On a few occasions when my manager was busy, it was my responsibility to update co-workers worldwide about the events through conference calls and communicate with our client, Gruppo Campari.

It soon became my job to brief the brand ambassadors and mobile bar staff about the Aperol Spritz product. It was crucial that I was enthusiastic, positive and professional (but fun) to get the staff full of energy and ready for the event.

For an hour or two a day, while my managers took a break, I was in charge of the whole site, including staff and guests. I was very grateful for the responsibility I was given by Alex – it showed that she trusted me to handle any difficult situations if they were to arise. As a junior event manager I had great responsibility from the start and end of every event.

As for what’s next? I will definitely keep in touch with my colleagues and great friends that I have made through Lightblue; the experience has been indescribable. I have learned so much and it has made me want to further my career in events management.
