International DRTV gong goes to Dutch children's charity

LONDON - SOS Children's Villages, the Dutch international children's aid charity, has won the inaugural Gold Star Award for Excellence in Fundraising DRTV, at the International Fundraising Congress in the Netherlands.

The ad, which follows an orphaned girl called Mouna, was produced in-house by the charity. It was the only one of the five shortlisted ads not to have been produced by an agency.

Margot Ende, head of fundraising at the charity, said: "The strategy was to make a low budget spot that shows as clear and simply as possible what your daily donation means for a orphaned child.

"[The award is] extra special because our budget was very limited and therefore we did the whole production of the commercial ourselves."

Simon Collings, chief executive of the Resource Alliance, which organises the award, said: "SOS Children's Villages is a worthy winner of our inaugural award. It was a moving advert that told the story of a real life orphan and viewers could not fail to be moved by it.

"We received a high standard of entries and this shows that fundraising DRTV is in a healthy state around the world."
