Insiders' Guide: Bing UK team at Microsoft

In a nutshell, we help you make better decisions by developing and marketing Microsoft's new search engine Bing. A large part of our job involves ensuring the brands that advertise on Bing achieve improved return on investment and their ads are seen by the right target audience.

Who is the team leader?
Jennifer Fletcher, who is extremely organised, runs meetings that finish on time and keeps us in check with a weekly "actions" list. We love her, not least because she brings biscuits to meetings.

What's in your in-tray?
We've been really busy since Bing launched in June, so our in-trays are practically overflowing. Fortunately, so is our out-tray. Bing is still in beta in the UK, as we are working hard to improve the search engine's local relevance and to add exciting features to help people find what they're looking for.

What inspires you?
We get a guaranteed daily dose of inspiration simply by opening Bing.co.uk. Other sources of inspiration include the unlimited supplies of Coke in the office, Xbox duels in coffee breaks and Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer.

Media you can't live without?
We are avid followers of the Microsoft Advertising Community blog and the @MSAdvertising Twitter feed. Other favourites include Spotify, Orange Wednesdays, Media Week, Facebook and Strictly Come Dancing.

Preferred lunching venues?

Our own canteen - it does the best shaker salads in Victoria.

Most memorable night out?
Our UK launch night. The details of the new search engine were top secret - we didn't even know the name until a few days before the actual launch. On D-Day, the office was Bing-branded from door stickers to cupcakes, and we celebrated the launch with plenty of bubbly. The team had been working hard for months and we were finally able to share our enthusiasm with the rest of the industry.

Advice to graduates?

Be proactive and open to taking up internships. It's a tough environment at the moment, but patience and persistence will still pay off.

If we ruled the world...

Everyone would have Bing as their homepage.
