Indy brings in new digital staff

LONDON - The Independent has recruited a string of digital executives as it looks to improve the commercial performance of its digital operations.

Sharon Wright is joining from Five in July as senior online account manager, reporting to commercial director of new ventures Jo Holdaway.

Wright is replacing Mindy Basra, who is staying with the group but moving to work across display advertising.

Wright will be joined by Audrey Livingstone, who starts in August as account manager for the website's student channel. Livingstone, who previously worked on the student classified section, will also report to Holdaway.

Also joining The Independent, which posted its first ABCe figure of 6.5 million unique users in May, is Gutemberg Araujo, who takes on the role of online project manager, replacing Anna Foreshew who has moved to an undisclosed media agency.

Holdaway said the appointments are part of the publisher's increasing focus on driving up The Independent's commercial digital revenues. In June, Media Week revealed that The Independent plans to bring digital ad sales in house next year.
