Industry veteran Brian Francis passes away

LONDON – Brian Francis, the former chairman of direct marketing agency Cramm Francis Woolf London, passed away last week following a heart attack.

Francis worked in the advertising and marketing industry for 33 years, founding sales promotion agencies IMP and FKB, before FKB was sold to Carlson.

In 1993 he finished his contract and set up Cramm Francis Woolf with Paul Woolf. He retired from the industry in December 2001 and spent the latter part of his life between his home in Surrey and in Provence, France.

Paul Woolf, chairman and managing director of CFW London, said: "Brian was one of the most extraordinary personalities in a business noted for its larger-than-life characters. I met Brian back in 1992, and worked with him until his retirement two years ago. Never in my life have I met such a charismatic individual, and feel honoured not only to have known him as a partner, but as a true friend. CFW London not only owes much of its existence to him, but also the spirit of how our agency works is down to the philosophy of Brian -- a philosophy which I am determined to continue."
