European Online Ad Formats has been developed by the European Interactive Advertising Association and the Interactive Advertising Bureau in Europe, in a move the groups say will help improve global consistency.
Michael Kleindl, chairman of the EIAA, said that the package had been adopted in response to feedback from advertisers and media planners and buyers wanting more simplified forms.
"We want to generate more scope for creativity and facilitate the growth of truly pan-European ad campaigns," he said.
The package includes traditional banner and skyscraper formats and two larger ad sizes, the Super Banner and the Wide Skyscraper, which it is hoped will help encourage creativity.
Danny Meadows-Klues, president of IAB Europe, said: "These core sizes will become available across thousands of European websites, giving advertisers the chance to run pan-European campaigns on a scale never before possible."
