The sister event to the National Television Awards, the NMAs will be sponsored by L'Oreal and created by Indigo Television.

It will be broadcast live on ITV and plans are underway for US and UK movie stars to attend the event.

Categories, which are open to the public to vote on from 20 April, include action/thriller movie, family movie and most anticipated movie of the summer.

ITV director of entertainment Elaine Bedell said: "The National Movie Awards celebrate the very best of what the film industry has offered from the past year and for the first time ever our viewers will have a front row seat for all the action as it happens live on ITV1."
