Ignite MD Eric Fuller to depart under IPC restructure

LONDON - IPC Ignite managing director Eric Fuller will leave the company at the end of December, after nine years with the publisher, as part of a restructure affecting an undisclosed number of roles due to the consolidation of the company's divisions.

It has not been disclosed whether Fuller, who became MD of IPC Ignite in 2006 having previously been publishing director of IPC ignite! magazines, Nuts and Loaded, has resigned or has been made redundant. The company would only say that "Eric's departure at the end of the year is of a direct result of the changes just announced".

An IPC spokeswoman described the total number of roles affected as "a very small figure" but refused to give further details on numbers.

A consultation period will begin tomorrow with affected staff, who the spokeswoman described as being in "cross-fuctional" roles.

No magazines or brands will be closed as a result of the reorganisation, which sees the end of IPC Ignite and IPC TX as separate divisions. The restructure will take efffect in January 2010.

IPC chief executive Evelyn Webster said the changes were designed to organise IPC by consumer audience rather than by magazine frequency or subject area, creating a "more market-facing structure" that better reflects clients' business needs.

"Reach, as well as the delivery of tightly targeted audiences, has never been more important," she said.

Ignite, the men's lifestyle and music division, has been folded into specialist leisure division IPC Inspire, which becomes the men's division headed by managing director Paul Williams.

TX, which houses TV listings titles such as What's On TV, has been folded into mass-market women's division IPC Connect, which is headed by Fiona Dent.

Charlie Meredith is moving from his role as managing director of TX to a new board role, managing director of central operations.

The role makes him responsible for the majority of central operations including IPC Direct, the direct marketing division; IPC Plus, the syndication and licensing division; production; and property/facilities. Meredith will also be responsible for ensuring that IPC meets its environmental obligations.

IPC Southbank, the up-market women's division, will continue to comprise the fashion, beauty and home interest brands, headed by managing director Jackie Newcombe.

IPC said the restructure does not change Webster's direct responsibility for IPC Advertising, which she took over in November last year when she was head of IPC Connect and Caroline McDevitt, managing director of IPC Advertising, left the company.
