The scheme is only open to IDM members and IDM graduates, but non-IDM training hours can count towards the amount of training they need to amass to obtain the CPD award.
To participate, individuals first need to apply to the IDM for a record card. To obtain the award they will need to go through at least 35 hours' training a year for two consecutive years.
Once obtained, the award is valid for one year, and participants will have to keep above the threshold of 35 hours' training a year to retain it for another year.
The IDM says it will recognise "suitable qualifications and training courses provided by other marketing institutes and academic centres, as well as self-directed learning, personal development and studies".
The scheme will give more weight to structured learning than informal seminars, and will be inclusive of training in management and presentation skills.
Neil Morris, IDM deputy managing director and the scheme's overall co-ordinator, said: "The scheme will benefit individuals and organisations alike since it will raise the game for all direct marketing practitioners and employers."
Registration is possible via the IDM's .
