IDM announces the addition of six honorary fellows

LONDON - The Institute of Direct Marketing announced six honorary fellows at its annual lunch on Friday.

Peter Simpson, commercial director at First Direct; Reimer Thedens, chairman and CEO of OgilvyOne Worldwide; Elly Woolston, deputy chairman of the charity division at Proximity London; David Simmons, director of Insurance Dialogue; and Nick Hutton, managing director of Morley's of Bicester were each presented with honorary fellowship by Bill Cockburn CBE, president of the Institute of Marketing and chairman of Parity Group.

A further posthumous honorary fellowship was awarded to Trevor Hilliard, the late managing director of ARG financial services, who died earlier this year.

According to the IDM, the fellowships are the institute's way of recognising individuals who have rendered exceptional services to the IDM's educational mission or to the direct marketing profession in general.

Huw Davis, European managing director of EHS Brann Discovery, was presented with the award of IDM Educator of the year.

The awards were made on Friday at the Millennium Hotel in Mayfair.

The IDM also announced that Clive Humby IDM, founder of dunnhumby will give the 2004 IDM Lecture on March 18 in Central London. Entitled "R is for ... relevance" Humby's lecture promises to be a much-needed antidote to CRM on the basis that customers typically prefer marketing that is driven by relevance rather than a relationship.

Through its Clubcard scheme dunnhumby has played an integral role in helping Tesco analyse loyalty data to provide shoppers with a more customised shopping experience.
