The organiser of the Daily Mail Ideal Home Show has hiked marketing spend for next year's show.

DMG World Media agreed the pounds 250,000 boost to pounds 2.5m after a 15,000 jump in visitor numbers for the 2000 show.

'Brand new initiatives such as Housemates from Hell and a new web site meant we really succeeded in capturing the public's enthusiasm,' said show director Niki Baker.

Features for next year's spring show are being put together and sponsors have yet to be finalised.

Spice Girl Mel C opened the Housemates from Hell area, where a group of people lived in one house for the duration of the event - similar to Channel 4's Big Brother. However, it will not return next year.

'There will be a similar big feature,' said a show spokeswoman. 'It's not quite finalised, but we are all looking forward to it.'

The show's first ABC audit has revealed that the 2000 event attracted 440,398 visitors. The total spend over the course of the show exceeded pounds 140m, a rise of pounds 20m on the previous year.
