What do you do and how long have you been in your current role?

I am the creative and production director for Fisher Productions and have been in my role for five years.

Where was your first job? What was the most important thing you learnt there?

My first job was as a water skiing instructor for Mark Warner in Corsica. The most important thing I learnt was working hard and having fun is key, but most of all building relationships with colleagues and clients and getting on with people is invaluable.

How did you get from there to where you are now?

Not being afraid of new opportunities and being self-motivated. On my return to London I did a brief stint as a PA with a surveyors company before joining Morgan Stanley, which gave me my first introduction into corporate events. Following that, I joined a small event management company before setting up my own business. After a year, I felt the need to be part of, and work for more established companies, which is when I started freelancing as a producer and was introduced to Fisher.

Looking back, did you expect your career path to take the course it has?

No - my childhood ambition was to be a dancer in the musical Cats.

Would you do anything differently?

Be more astute and vigilant on my assessment of people and listen more to my initial instinct.

Who has inspired you along the way?

The joy of my role and our industry is that every day brings different inspirations and opportunities to meet and work with a variety of extremely talented and inspirational people, including suppliers and high-profile clients.

Have you ever had a job interview that went particularly well or spectacularly wrong?

It's been so long since I've had an actual job interview, however, we are regularly asked to pitch to new clients. I see this as very much an interview process. An interview (or pitch) is finding the right fit on both sides. It's a two-way process - ask pertinent questions and do your research.

Is there a piece of career advice you’ve ever been told that has stuck with you?

Yes, from my father who said: "To be a premier team, you need premier players in your team."

What career advice would you give to your 21-year-old self?

The advice I would give would be: "When you hear that little voice inside your head, listen to it."

How do you wind down and relax after a hectic day?

I find a really good run helps me clear my head and wind down. Otherwise, a large glass of wine and chilling out with family and friends does the trick.
