The Hut Group said it had recognised gifting products as a key growth area for its business. It plans to make the site the market leader of the proposition across Europe, through the Gifted.com site, within two years.

Gifted.com will launch next month and will offer free delivery on every order as standard, which it claims differentiates itself from existing competitors.

The free delivery service is currently The Hut Group's core value proposition across the portfolio of websites, which includes Zavvi.com.

Founded in 2004, The Hut Group is primarily focused on entertainment (games, DVDs, CDs, books) and electrical items.

However, the company added that it was currently reviewing products in sports, health and beauty, footwear and toys, as part of efforts to move into FMCG product areas.

As well as running its own sites, it also offers white label solutions for blue-chip retail partners such as Asda, Woolworths, Argos, Tesco and WHSmith.

In the six weeks to Christmas 2009, The Hut Group saw a 188% rise in the number of orders compared with 2008.

Zavvi went into administration in December 2008 and its stores were closed by February 2009. The following month, The Hut Group acquired the retailer and relaunched it as an online brand.
