Hundreds complain to watchdog about 'big bully' Davina

LONDON - More than 450 viewers have complained to Ofcom about 'Big Brother' host Davina McCall failing to rein in the crowd verbally attacking Zimbabwean nurse Makosi during her eviction interview on Friday's finale show.

Throughout Makosi's entire 15-minute interview during the live finale, the crowd were shouting, "liar, liar, liar" and "off, off, off", in one of the noisiest eviction interviews in the show's history.

A clearly shaken Makosi put on a tough exterior, but admitted to McCall that she was finding the situation "really distressing".

Viewers complained that despite Makosi's hints that the taunts were upsetting her, McCall did nothing to stop them and even encouraged them at times.

"I can't believe you are showing no remorse," McCall said to Makosi at one point.

Makosi, who finished third, was accused of being a liar for saying she thought she was pregnant after she claimed she had sex with 70s dancer and eventual winner, Anthony Hutton, following an incident in the jacuzzi in week six. Anthony has denied the two did anything more than kiss.

The cardiac nurse hit back at McCall for not doing anything to stop the crowd during an interview with The Sun on Monday.

"After what she did to me, I have lost all respect for her," Makosi said.

The media regulator confirmed that it would be investigating the incident.

This marks the second serious complaint the show has been hit by in the last two weeks. At the beginning of the month, when replacement contestant Kinga was brought in, 200 viewers complained about her simulating sex with a wine bottle and a plastic dog. She has since denied she did this and blamed Channel 4 for the way it edited the incident.

Meanwhile, McCall has branded critics of 'Big Brother' "pseudo intellectuals" who never really watch the show.

The presenter also praised those who watched the show.

"It's a fascinating insight into life. The people that go into that house are a cross-section of British culture. They're not freaks," she said in an interview with the Radio Times.
